Barcelona, Spain — In observance of National Women’s Month 2024, the Philippine Consulate General in Barcelona hosted a seminar focusing on women's rights in the workplace in Catalonia and the rest of Spain. The event featured a comprehensive presentation by lawyer Manuel Silva of MSM Legal Consulting and was held on 23 March 2024, attracting keen interest from the Filipino community in advancing gender equality and women’s rights in the professional sphere.

This seminar stands as a part of a year-long, once-a-month series of legal lectures curated by the consulate to facilitate a deeper understanding of the legal aspects of life in Spain for the Filipino community. These sessions cover a wide array of topics, including arraigo, legal concerns of students, and other legal matters pertinent to Filipinos living in Spain. Welcoming the participants was the Consulate General’s Gender and Development Focal Point Officer Consul Raisa Mabayo, who remarked that the choice of women's rights in the workplace as this month’s topic underscores the consulate's commitment to addressing issues specifically impacting women.

Lawyer Manuel Silva, with his extensive legal acumen, imparted crucial insights into the legal protections available to women in Spain and Catalonia, including equal employment opportunities, combating workplace discrimination, and harassment. The seminar not only aimed to educate but also to empower Filipino women with the knowledge to advocate for their rights effectively.

Vice Consul Lee Gano facilitated the Interactive sessions which further enriched the seminar, allowing participants to exchange experiences, seek advice on specific issues, and discuss strategies to foster a more inclusive and respectful work environment. He also provided an overview of the government's Bagong Pilipinas campaign, emphasizing its commitment to an inclusive approach towards economic and social transformation.

The Philippine Consulate General in Barcelona continues to pledge its support for gender equality and the empowerment of women across all sectors of society.
