Barcelona, 13 October 2023 — A luminary group from the Philippines delivered an impressive showcase of the nation’s investment climate and potential during a Business Investment Forum held at IESE Business School on 09 October 2023. Led by Filipino economist Dr. Bernardo Villegas, and supported by the Philippine Consulate General in Barcelona, the University of Asia and the Pacific, IESE Business School and the private sector, the event underscored vibrant opportunities that await prospective investors and collaborators in the Philippine market, coupled with insights into its sectors such as infrastructure, large-scale agriculture, energy, renewable energy, human resources and navigating the legal aspects of investing in the Philippines. 

Dr. Villegas led the discussions, with a presentation on the Philippine Economic outlook, which delved deep into nuances, offering a balanced perspective on the opportunities and challenges within the Philippine market. 

The private sector delegation from the Philippines, composed of representatives of prominent businesses from the Philippines such as, DMCI Holdings, Emperador Properties (Alliance Global Inc.), Lionheart Farms, VINTA Ventures Inc., G.A.A. Delgado Incorporated, WEnergy Power Pilipinas Inc., A Brown Company Inc., Escudero Marasigan Vallente and E.H. Villareal Law (EMSAVVIL Law), and EDI-Staffbuilders International, Inc., unveiled a panoramic view of the country’s flourishing investment climate. Over 40 participants, including representatives from entrepreneurs, potential investors, Catalan government representatives, enriched their knowledge and perspectives on the potential that lies in the Philippines. 

In a vital segment of the event, the Consulate presented statistics focusing on the current trade relations between Spain and the Philippines, providing a perspective on the extant bilateral trade and economic ties, setting a potent backdrop for discussions on strengthening and expanding future collaborations. 

The forum also highlighted the untapped potential for mutually beneficial collaborations between Catalonia and the Philippines. Special attention was accorded to the burgeoning opportunities in sectors like technology and innovation, renewable energy, agriculture and life sciences, with a keen focus on establishing sustainable and profitable ventures. 

One of the critical aspects of the forum was the engaging dialogue and networking opportunities that were created. The attendees were able to interact with the speakers and other participants, sharing ideas, forging connections, and laying the foundation for future collaborations and investments between businesses in Catalonia, the rest of Spain and the Philippines. 

This event not only signposted the rich, untapped potential in the Philippines but also functioned as a catalyst to strengthen Spain-Philippines economic ties. The presentations and dialogues within the forum are poised to inspire and facilitate future collaborations and investments, catalyzing mutually beneficial growth and development.
