Barcelona, 30 June 2023 - The Consulate General in Barcelona, with the ASEAN Committee in Madrid and the Asociación Empresarial España ASEAN (ASEMPEA), embarked on a visit to the Port of Barcelona on 22 June 2023. Ambassadors from ASEAN missions in Madrid, and their representatives staged the visit to strengthen ties and explore potential collaboration with the Port of Barcelona. Philippine Consul General to Barcelona Maria Theresa S.M. Lazaro represented Philippine Ambassador to Spain Philippe J. Lhuillier. The delegation was warmly received by Lluis Salvado, the President of the Port of Barcelona.
The delegation received a comprehensive briefing on the operations and activities of the Port of Barcelona. The Port of Barcelona Head of Strategy, Jordi Torrent, provided invaluable insights and data regarding the port's interactions with ASEAN countries’ ports.
The Consulate General regards the Port of Barcelona as an exemplary model that offers valuable insights and best practices for the development of Philippine ports. Recognizing the need for enhanced efficiency and reduced transit times, the Consul General acknowledges the comparative advantages and strategies employed by the Port of Barcelona. With this in mind, the Consulate General in Barcelona, will work to foster collaboration and establish meaningful partnerships with the Port of Barcelona, aiming to implement innovative approaches and drive positive change in Philippine port infrastructure and operations.
