Barcelona, 26 October 2022 -  The Philippine Consulate General in Barcelona attended the inauguration of the 10th edition of the Asian Film Festival Barcelona (AFFBCN)  held at the Phenomena Cinema in Barcelona.  The annual event is organized by Casa Asia and will run from 26 October 2022 to 06 November 2022.

A total of 111 films from 25 countries from Asia and the Pacific Region will be participating in the festival, all competing for fifteen awards in five different sections.  The award categories are best film, best director and best screenplay.  In the previous editions of AFFBCN, the award for best feature film in the official section has been awarded to entries from China, Afghanistan, South Korea and Iran.

Ten entries from the Philippines are featured in this year’s AFFBCN with Director Brillante Mendoza’s film “Gensan Punch” and Director Joel Lamangan’s “Walker” entered in the official section.   The other eight films participating are “Fall Guy” (Joel Lamangan, 2022), “Leonor Will Never Die” (Martika Ramirez, 2022), “May-December-January” (McArthur Cruz Alejandre, 2022), “Peek at the Fire” (McArthur Cruz Alejandre, 2022), “Resbak” (Brillante Mendoza, 2021), “The Teacher”, (Joel Lamangan, 2022), “Virgin Forest” (Brillante Mendoza, 2022) and “Broken Blooms”    (Luisito Lagdemeo Ignacio, 2022).  The entries from the Philippine filmmakers comes in the heels of the 9th Edition of AFFBCN during which the film “Verdict” by Director and Screenwriter Raymund Ribay Gutierrez won the award for Best Script in the official section.

AFFBCN as in previous years has been consistent in focusing on areas that depict historical narratives and gender issues.
