Barcelona, 02 June 2025 — The Philippine Consulate General in Barcelona successfully hosted a Financial Literacy Seminar on 1 June 2025 at its premises, with the primary goal of equipping overseas Filipinos with essential financial knowledge and tools through the programs of the Pag-IBIG Fund. Vice President Florencio Pedro O. Galang Jr. of Pag-IBIG Fund led the seminar, providing a comprehensive overview of the agency’s savings programs, financing options, and housing loan services tailored for overseas Filipinos and their families.
Consul General Maria Theresa SM Lazaro delivered the opening remarks, encouraging participants to develop strong financial habits early. “We at the Consulate continue to work hard to bring vital government services closer to our community—from organizing the Inter-Agency Weekend Service Caravan with MWO, OWWA, Pag-IBIG, and SSS, to now hosting this financial literacy seminar led by Pag-IBIG Vice President Galang. We aim to empower you, our kababayan, by providing you with access to knowledge and tools that can help you make sound financial decisions and build a secure future for yourselves and your families.”
The event also welcomed Ms. Angela A. Labrado-Trinidad, Labor Attaché of the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) in Madrid, who underscored the shared commitment of government agencies in promoting the welfare of Filipinos overseas.
Immediately after the seminar, Pag-IBIG Fund representatives accepted on-site applications, providing participants with a convenient opportunity to access membership and services directly.
This activity forms part of the Consulate’s broader initiative to bring timely and relevant government services to the Filipino community. It followed the successful Inter-Agency Weekend Service Caravan held on 31 May 2025, which provided full consular services and access to programs offered by MWO, OWWA, Pag-IBIG, and SSS.
The event was made possible through the strong collaboration between the Philippine Consulate General in Barcelona, MWO-Madrid, OWWA, Pag-IBIG Fund, and SSS, demonstrating a unified approach to supporting the Filipino diaspora.
The Consulate remains committed to promoting financial literacy and economic empowerment among Filipinos abroad through sustained outreach, education, and inter-agency cooperation.
