PH brand Fisherfarms makes waves as only Asian finalist in global product awards
Philippine government and private sector join forces to promote the country’s seafood industry
08 May 2025 - The Philippines made a strong and vibrant showing at the 2025 Seafood Expo Global on 06-08 May 2025 in Barcelona, with its seafood industry proudly represented by top producers, export-ready products, and key officials from the Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR). This year’s Philippine participation is expected to yield even greater returns than 2024, buoyed by growing demand for high-quality, sustainably sourced seafood and the country’s upgraded and visually stunning national pavilion.
The delegation was led by Department of Agriculture Undersecretary for Fisheries, Drusila Esther Bayate, together with Atty. Glen Pangapalan, Acting General Manager of the Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA); Mr. Nolet Fulgencio, Agricultural Attaché in Brussels; and Ms. Amor Diaz, Chief of BFAR’s Fisheries Industry Development and Support Services Division (FIDSSD). The delegation was assisted on the ground by the Philippine Consulate General in Barcelona, led by Consul General Maria Theresa S.M. Lazaro.
The Philippine Pavilion showcased the country’s premium seafood exports—including octopus, tuna, bangus (milkfish), and value-added products—drawing attention from international buyers and trade visitors alike. Philippine brand Fisherfarms, which earned global recognition with its Gourmet Baked Rellenong Bangus (Stuffed Farm-Raised Milkfish) was named a Finalist for Best Retail Product at the Seafood Excellence Global Awards. It was the only Asian product among the finalists this year—an impressive achievement that highlights the potential of Philippine innovation in global seafood markets.
This year’s edition of Seafood Expo Global provided a platform not only for promoting the best of Philippine seafood but also for strengthening linkages across the fisheries value chain—from producers and exporters to international distributors and retailers. With government support and industry expertise, the Philippines continues to scale new heights in seafood export, sustainability, and competitiveness.
The Philippine participation in this year’s expo was made possible through the combined efforts of the Department of Agriculture, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, the PFDA, and the Philippine Consulate General in Barcelona.
