BARCELONA, 2 May 2025 — In celebration of International Labor Day, the Philippine Consulate General in Barcelona launched on its digital platforms a special tribute project titled “Pinoy Pride: Mga Kwento ng Pagsusumikap at Tagumpay” on 1 May 2025.

The project, featuring a series of recorded interviews with Filipinos from various work backgrounds, honors the enduring resilience, personal journeys, and invaluable contributions of overseas Filipinos (OFs) living and working in Barcelona and nearby areas. Around a dozen stories will be released throughout the month of May 2025.

“These stories offer a candid and emotional portrait of the migrant experience—shedding light on the real challenges and quiet triumphs that define the lives of Filipinos abroad. The project serves both as a tribute to the Filipino labor force and as a lasting archive of their lived experiences. And what better place to share these wonderful stories than on social media, where so many of us now turn for both information and inspiration,” said Philippine Consul General in Barcelona Maria Theresa S.M. Lazaro on the concept of the project.

Other than life stories, the series feature themes and lessons pivotal to Filipinos living abroad, particularly in Spain, including the complex process of homologación—a requirement for Filipino professionals to have their qualifications recognized in Spain, the Spanish and Catalan language,  education and skills improvement, among others.

The project also highlights the entrepreneurial spirit of Filipinos who ventured into small and medium businesses. From chefs and restaurant owners to travel agents and service providers, their stories showcase the creative energy, adaptability, and perseverance that enable them to thrive despite barriers such as limited financing, bureaucratic procedures, and cultural adjustments.

Like many overseas Filipinos, emotional accounts also reflect the personal sacrifices migrants endure—especially the pain of separation from loved ones, the struggle to navigate unfamiliar social norms, and the quiet moments of doubt or homesickness. Yet even in these hardships, stories resonate with themes of hope, growth, and the comfort of community.

“Through this initiative, the Consulate reaffirms its dedication to empowering our Filipino migrants. “Pinoy Pride: Mga Kwento ng Pagsusumikap at Tagumpay” not only celebrates Filipino excellence and resilience but also strengthens the bond between the Philippines and its citizens abroad—ensuring their voices are heard and their stories honored,” said Consul General Lazaro.
