Barcelona, Spain – Officials from the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Philippine Railways Institute (PRI), led by Undersecretary and PRI Officer-in-Charge Anneli R. Lontoc, conducted a study visit to Barcelona as part of efforts to enhance railway operations and planning for the Metro Rail Transit Line 4 (MRT-4) project.

The visit was facilitated by IDOM, the consulting firm for MRT-4, and supported by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

The delegation visited Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) and the Port of Barcelona to study best practices in metro automation, operations control centers, and intermodal freight integration. The insights gained are expected to contribute to the development of MRT-4, a key public transport project intended to improve mobility in the Greater Manila Area.

Consul General Maria Theresa S.M. Lazaro of the Philippine Consulate General in Barcelona joined the delegation during the study visits to support the Philippine officials.

This initiative highlights the Philippine government’s commitment to adopting global standards in building a safe, efficient, and modern railway system for the Filipino public.
