Barcelona, 08 April 2025 - The Philippine Consulate General in Barcelona welcomed the Woodrose Chorale for a courtesy visit following their notable achievement at the “Golden Voices of Montserrat 2025” international choir competition held in Lloret de Mar, Catalonia, Spain. The delegation comprised twenty-one students from PAREF Woodrose School in Muntinlupa, aged 12 to 18, accompanied by their parents, choir conductor Ms. Myrene Bagayaua Carballo, and choir coordinator Ms. Lisa Mapa Sator. During their visit, the choir performed traditional and contemporary Filipino songs before Consulate personnel and visiting clients, offering a vibrant display of Filipino artistry and cultural expression.
“We are proud of the Woodrose Chorale for bringing honor to the Philippines through their talent and dedication,” said Consul General Maria Theresa S.M. Lazaro. “Their achievement reflects the strength of Filipino artistry and the important role of our youth in promoting Philippine culture on the global stage. The Consulate remains committed to supporting cultural initiatives that celebrate and elevate the Filipino identity abroad.”
At the competition organized by Fiestalonia Milenio S.L., the Woodrose Chorale earned top honors—securing First Place (Gold) in the Folklore category and Second Place (Silver) in the Children’s Choir category. Their emotive rendition of Freddie Aguilar’s “Anak”, arranged by Robert Delgado, resonated strongly with both the audience and adjudicators, receiving particular acclaim in the Children’s Choir division. In the Folklore category, their selection of regional Filipino songs reflected musical discipline, interpretive maturity, and a deep appreciation for Philippine cultural heritage.
The accomplishment reflects the Woodrose Chorale’s growth, discipline, and dedication,” said Choir Conductor Ms. Myrene Bagayaua Carballo. “After five years and the challenges of the pandemic, returning to the international stage was both meaningful and rewarding. The girls trained hard, and their heartfelt performances, especially ‘Anak’ and our Folklore pieces, showed how far they’ve come. Woodrose Chorale looks forward to continuing their journey of bringing Filipino music and spirit to the world stage.” END
