Barcelona, 12 February 2024 - In a significant stride towards enhancing safety and emergency preparedness in the workplace, the personnel of the Philippine Consulate General in Barcelona have achieved certification in Emergency First Response as of 10 February 2024, through an intensive theoretical and practical emergency first response training program. This initiative highlights the consulate's unwavering commitment to safeguarding the well-being of its clientele and staff. As part of its Gender and Development (GAD) program, the training also placed particular emphasis on inclusivity and catering to the specific needs of women in emergency situations.
The certification program, led by an expert instructor, provided extensive training in crucial first-aid techniques, CPR, management of choking incidents, and allergy responses. The curriculum was meticulously designed to incorporate practical scenarios, ensuring the team is well-prepared to address real-life emergencies.
A focal point of the curriculum was dedicated to addressing gender-specific challenges, ensuring a holistic approach to emergency response. Addressing the emergency first response gender gap, the training sought to debunk myths and confront biases that hinder lifesaving CPR for women, highlighting the universal need for immediate action regardless of gender to enhance survival chances, and ensuring all casualties receive equal care.
Consul General Maria Theresa Lazaro said of the initiative, "We undertook the training to ensure our personnel are able to respond well to emergency situations, whether in the Consulate or beyond. This certification reflects our resolve, equipping our personnel not just with the skills to effectively manage emergencies, but also with the awareness to address the distinct needs of women. We are committed to empowering our team, and with this training, we have significantly enhanced our capability to do so."
The attainment of the Emergency First Response certification is a testament to the consulate's dedication to advancing safety, responsiveness, and gender inclusivity in its day to day operations. END
